PRESS RELEASE: BREWSTER PD – Unlock Your Inner Daredevil: A Guide to Car Theft Prevention

Press Release Brewster PD

Brewster Police Department’s latest press release brings an important message to the community – lock your car, or risk losing it forever! As winter temperatures drop, it’s tempting to leave your car running and warming up before hitting the road. But don’t be fooled by the cozy feeling of a toasty car interior, as leaving your car unlocked and running is an open invitation for car thieves.

In fact, Brewster’s very own car thieves have reported that they much prefer stealing cars that are unlocked and running. It’s like getting an all-you-can-eat buffet with no effort! And if you think you’re being clever by hiding a spare ignition key in your vehicle, think again. Car thieves are experts at finding those hidden keys faster than a squirrel can find its nuts!

So, if you want to keep your car, and maybe even your nuts, secure, follow these simple rules: never leave your car unlocked and running to warm up, and never hide a spare ignition key in your vehicle. Instead, try leaving your car unlocked with the keys in the ignition while parked in a high-crime area. That way, car thieves will be so confused by your disregard for their modus operandi that they might just move on to the next vehicle. Plus, you’ll save time by not having to search for those pesky keys every time you need to get in your car!
