Town of Twisp Considers Leasing Water Rights for Irrigation: Because Who Needs Water Anyway?

So, the Town of Twisp is considering a request from the Auvil Fruit Company to lease some of its precious water for the purpose of irrigating an apple orchard. How exciting! Because who needs water, right? Let’s just give it away to a big corporation for six whole years, just for the measly sum of $28,500. What a steal!

According to the proposed contract, Auvil wants to lease up to 38 acre feet of water per year for the orchard. And don’t worry, they promise to use the water carefully and not wastefully. Because corporations have a great track record of being responsible with resources, don’t they?

Dan Haller of Aspect Consulting, who did a study of Twisp’s water needs, says the town has enough surplus to lease water if it wants to. And why not? Who needs water for the future growth and development of the town when we can just lease it to a corporation instead?

Council member Aaron Studen raised the question of whether it’s a good idea to sell the town’s water to someone outside the watershed. But who cares about the consequences, right? It’s not like we need to protect our resources or anything.

Council member Mark Easton asked if the town even needs the money. But who cares about financial responsibility when we can just give our water away to a corporation?

In conclusion, let’s all just rush to lease our water to a big corporation for the sake of an apple orchard. After all, what could possibly go wrong?
