FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Washington D.C. – The United States Postal Service (USPS) issued a statement today in response to the new per-package charge policy implemented by Aeneas Valley Country Store (AVCS), a longtime postal partner.
“We at the USPS are disappointed to learn of AVCS’s decision to charge customers for using their package service,” the statement reads. “We understand that AVCS has grown tired of providing a free package drop-off and pick-up service to their community, but we urge them to reconsider this policy.”
The statement goes on to question AVCS’s ability to handle the workload and suggests that the new policy may create more problems than it solves.
“We fear that this new policy may lead to chaos and confusion, as customers may not be aware of the charge or may refuse to pay it,” the statement continues. “Furthermore, AVCS may not be equipped to handle the increased workload that may come with this policy. Who will handle all of the angry customers and lost packages?”
The statement also addresses the recent backlash and harassment that AVCS has received from some members of the community.
“We condemn any form of harassment or threats that AVCS has received in response to this policy change,” the statement reads. “However, we also want to remind AVCS that they are not alone in dealing with upset customers. We deal with upset customers every day and we’ve learned how to handle them with grace and dignity. Perhaps AVCS could learn a thing or two from us.”
The statement ends with a plea to AVCS to reconsider their decision and continue to provide a free package service to their community.
“We implore AVCS to think about the impact this policy may have on their customers and their relationship with the USPS,” the statement concludes. “We hope they will reconsider and continue to be a valuable partner in our mission to provide reliable and affordable postal service to all Americans.”
